Driving Sustainable Use: Our Input to Global Assessments
We helped develop two indicators that can measure sustainable use of species, using information from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and the Living Planet Index. These two papers, the first with colleagues from IUCN, and the second with colleagues from the Zoological Society of London, offer crucial insights into the sustainability of wild species use. The conclusions of our work were included in the IPBES Sustainable Use of Species Assessment, a landmark publication accepted by 94 IPBES member countries in 2022. These documents are having ongoing impacts on development and implementation of wildlife trade policy at both the national and international level.
