To enhance traceability in agricultural commodity supply chains, we organized a series of online and in-person workshops (in London, Jakarta and Beijing) and a field trip in Central Kalimantan to discuss the role of enhanced traceability with helping the palm oil, soy and beef industries comply with the new EUDR. We paid special attention to the farmers’ concerns and identified mechanisms that could support implementation of the EUDR in an affordable way. Tech companies and government representatives (mainly from Brazil, Indonesia and China) were involved in the discussions to influence the development of future tools and policies. Some of our research on traceability is summarized in this report. In September 2024, a business brief that presented the key findings of the traceability workshop series published.
Additionally, we collaborated with a traceability pilot run by a blockchain-based commodities exchange (Gavea) in collaboration with a major soy trader (Amaggi). After this collaboration these companies confirmed the added value of enhanced traceability for the different actors across the supply chain.
